On Tuesday, December 8, 2015, President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko signed the Decree No. 687/2015 on Honoring the Memory of Ivan Franko in connection with the 160^th anniversary of the birth and the 100^th anniversary of the death of Ivan Franko. The Decree was divulgated on the official website of the President.

The document was signed “in order to honor the memory of the outstanding Ukrainian writer, scientist and public man Ivan Yakovych Franko, to popularize his literary, journalistic and scientific heritage taking into account his significant contribution to the development of Ukrainian nation, as well as to celebrate in 2016 several anniversaries – the 160^th anniversary of the birth and the 100^th anniversary of the death of Ivan Franko.”

According to the Decree, the Cabinet of Ministers is instructed to create the organizing committee on preparation and holding of events dedicated to honoring the memory of Ivan Yakovych Franko and approve its personal composition within two weeks.

Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, Regional State Administrations and Kyiv City State Administration are instructed to develop plans of measures to honor the memory of Ivan Franko.

State Committee for Television and Radio Broadcasting should also ensure that mass media will cover all events dedicated to honoring the memory of the Great Kamenyar.
