There were announced the names of 6 nominees for obtaining the Ivan Franko International Prize

The International Expert Council has selected six nominees (per three in each nomination) of the current Ivan Franko International Prize that highlights the best academic papers from all over the world in the field of Ukrainian Studies and social and humane sciences.

This year, 20 scientific papers from 16 universities 0f Austria, Poland, Ukraine, and Israel were submitted in the framework of Prize competition.

Subject to the applicable Rule, the Expert Council members were guided by their own knowledge domain during selection of nominees, as well as they compared the scientific papers that set up a claim for Prize winning according to the following criteria: availability of innovation and unique approaches in a research study; research study conceptual importance, consistency, and criticality; research study international context and level.

Within the nomination entitled “For Convincing Contributions (Achievements) in the field of Social and Humane Sciences” , the Expert Council members recommend submittal to jury consideration the following scholarly works: three-volume monograph authored by the writing team composed of Yuri Makar, Michael Gorny, Vitaliy Makar, Anatoly Salyuk co-author of Volume I “From Deportation to Deportation. Social and Political Life of the Ukrainians of Kholmshchyna and Pidlishia (1915-1947) Reserch. Memories. Documets (Chernivtsi); monograph authored by Sophia Bonkovska “The sacred angioplasty of Ukrsine-Rus. The sacred diskoses and chalikes. The end of the 10th-16th  centurios” (Lviv); and scientific paper authored by Oleg Shabliy «Social Geography»  of 2 books (Lviv).

Within the nomination entitled “For Convincing Contributions (Achievements) in the field of Ukrainian Studies”, there will be submitted to jury consideration the monograph authored by Michael Mozer «New Contributions to the History of the Ukrainian Language” (Wien, Austria); monograph authored by Zoryana Kupchynska “Archaic Place Names Stratigraphy of Ukraine” (Lviv); and monograph authored by Vladimir Serhiychuk “Famine of 1932-33 as a genocide of Ukrainians” (Kyiv).

All six scholarly contribution works will be submitted to consideration of the International Jury being in its session from June 23 to June 25 in Vienna.

The Ivan Franko International Prize Winners will be announced on June 25. The Prizing ceremony will be held on September 27 at the birthplace of Ivan Franko –Drogobych City.

The Prize is an annual event and is presented from 2016. The Prize Winners are granted with monetary remuneration and golden sign. In 2017, the prize fund amounts to 500 hundred thousand hryvnias.

We remind that the first winner of the Prize in 2016, i.e., became Archbishop-Emeritus and of Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church, Cardinal of the Catholic Church  His Beatitude Lubomyr Husar  in nomination  “For significant personal contribution to the development of social and humanitarian sciences”  for the monograph “Andrey Sheptytsky Galician Metropolitan (1901-1944), a forerunner of ecumenism”.
