Ivan Franko International Fund has been presented in Canada

On April 10, a business trip of the Administration of the Ivan Franko International Fund to Canada came to an end.

During the visit, organized within the framework of the events of bilateral cooperation and presentations, the Chairman of the Board of the Fund, Roland Franko, and the Director of the Fund, Ihor Kurus, held a number of meetings and negotiations. In addition, the presentation of the Ivan Franko International Fund took place in three cities: Toronto, Hamilton and Ottawa.

The management of the Ivan Franko Fund, under the auspices of the President of the Ukrainian Canadian Congress (Toronto Department) Taras Bahryi, and the Director of the LATKA Inc. Mariia Antoniv, held the presentation of the Ivan Franko International Prize in Toronto on April 1. The Consul General of Ukraine in Toronto Andrii Veselovskyi, the Former Congressman of the Parliament of Canada, one of the leaders of the Ukrainian Canadian Community Yurii Shymko, the President of the Shevchenko Scientific Society Dariia Darevych, the Director of the Canada-Ukraine Chamber of Commerce Bohdan Myndiuk, PhD Roma Franko with her family, Professor Marko Robert Stech, representatives of Plast and other representatives of the Ukrainian community in Canada.

While staying in Ottawa, the administration of the Fund had a meeting with the Ambassador of Ukraine to Canada Andriy Shevchenko on April 04. The Fund representatives have met with the Ukrainian community and scientists of Ottawa University, as well.

During their visit to Canada, the Chairman of the Board Roland Franko and the Director of the Fund Ihor Kurus also visited the Ivan Franko Home in Canada, the Josyf Cardinal Slipyj Catholic School, the Ivan Franko Saturday School and the Ridna Shkola UNF West Toronto.

On April 7, under the auspices of Maria Rypan, a pleasant and long-awaited meeting with the family took place – Roland Franko (grandson of Ivan Franko, son of Taras Farnko) and Halyna Klyuchko (great-granddaughter of Ivan Franko, granddaughter of Hanna Klyuchko-Franko) met in the Saint Vladimir Institute. Later on the administration of the Fund had a small excursion around the Saint Vladimir Institute, where the fantastic library operates and which is the significant supplementary to the Ukrainian studies, collected at the library of Toronto University. Besides of professional literature for historic and ethnographic researches, the library has a lot of unique publications of Ivan Franko. The Institute also accommodates the Ukrainian Museum of Canada, Department of Ontario, Holodomor Research and Education Consortium (studies Holodomor (Famine Genocide) at scientific level), Ukrainian Research and Documentation Centre, Ukrainian Studies Foundation, Ukrainian Genealogical Group and others. The Librarian of the Saint Vladimir, Halyna Ostapchuk, has granted books of Ivan Franko, published in Canada, to the apartment-museum of the family of Ivan Franko in Kyiv for the use purpose.

During the business trip to Canada, the group of the Ivan Franko International Fund had an opportunity to get acquainted with the family of Stepan and Roma Franko. On April 7, on the Annunciation to the Blessed Virgin Mary, Roland Franko and the representatives of the Fund were invited to dine at Franko’s family.

On the last day of their stay in Canada, on April 9, on the Palm Sunday, the management of the Fund visited the Christ the Good Shepherd Parish at St. Michael’s Ukrainian Catholic Church at the invitation of Taras Bahryi, the President of the Ukrainian Canada Congress (Toronto Department.)

In conclusion, I would like to express great appreciation to Taras Bahryi, the President of the Ukrainian Canada Congress (Toronto Department), Maria Antoniv, the Director of the LATCA Inc. for their invitation to Canada and organization of our events. I would like to thank the family of Stepan and Roma Franko for their hospitality, openness, kindness and patriotism, and also for the fact that they have joined together with their sons (Ivan and Roman) to the formation of the prize fund of the Ivan Franko International Prize.
