“In less than two years, the Ivan Franko International Prize has been recognized by the scientists in 10 countries – Austria, Canada, Great Britain, Spain, Germany, Sweden, Israel, Poland, Slovakia and Ukraine. And I want Ukraine to become a strong scientific platform, where the leading scientists of the world compete with each other”, – the grandson of Ivan Franko.

He noted that international recognition of the Ivan Franko International Prize awarded in two nominations: for significant achievements in the field of Ukrainian Studies and for significant achievements in the field of social and humanitarian sciences, is the top priority of the Fund, the management of which currently consists of the academics and public figures from Canada, Poland, Australia, Great Britain and Ukraine.

“When establishing the Ivan Franko International Prize, I wanted it to be similar to the Nobel Prize. And this work requires a lot of efforts … We believe that the Ivan Franko International Prize is very important for promotion of Ukraine in the civilized world. This work will be successful if millions of Ukrainians worldwide join it. We are looking for like-minded persons who may work with us and raise Ukrainian Prize to a high level and raise the level of Ukrainian science, as well”, – said Roland Franco.

According to Managing Director of the Ivan Franko International Fund Ihor Kurus, information on the Ivan Franko International Prize has been sent to all known world universities.

“100 world top universities have received our invitation to participate in this Prize,” – he said.

At the same time, he emphasized that the selection criteria for the Prize are transparent. The most important is professional competence in its own field and international level of scientific studies submitted for the Prize.

Volodymyr Buhrov, the Board Member of the Ivan Franko International Prize, the vice-rector of Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv emphasized that each of the 20 works submitted this year will be considered in 3 stages: Nomination Committee, International Expert Council, International Jury. It will also allow to obtain efficient results.

“We believe that those who win will be popular scientists in their field and their work will meet high criteria: international recognition, innovativeness, distinction, promotion of those methodologies that Ivan Franco developed for social and humanitarian sciences”, – said Buhrov.

Yaroslav Harasym, the Board Member of the Ivan Franko International Prize, the vice-rector of the Ivan Franko National University of Lviv noted that the Prize is important for Ukrainian humanitaristics, firstly, because it is the interdisciplinary communication platform for the historians, linguists, literary scholars, lawyers, linguists and representatives of other sciences with scientific ideas, which creates three-dimensional measurement of the achievements of modern humanitaristics. Secondly, it is important for the development of Ukrainian studies in the world, as it allows to find other Centres of Ukrainian Studies elsewhere but Ukraine.

“The most important is that this Prize promotes works of Ivan Franko. And the first year of the Prize awarding has shown that it restores public confidence in institutional solutions – the media-space provided for no reservations about the mechanism of the procedure and the way the Prize was awarded”, – said Harasym.
